Why I run ActivateBody workshops

Hi there,

In this message there will be no fancy pics, no clever marketing or sales speak. Just information about me and a message about why I do what I do and what I have learned over my personal journey applying breathing, movement, heat and ice and adapting this experience to develop our ActivateBody Workshops.

First of all, why I run these workshops, which some might see as extreme - Well the simple answer is because it feels good when I do them and I enjoy sharing the experience with others.

The recovery workshop in particular helps people reset from all the stress and distractions that life throws at them. It’s a combination of the methods and skills I have learned along my own path in reclaiming my health.

Whilst exploring methods that reportedly worked for others, I decided to be my own guinea pig and test these techniques on myself. I immersed myself in yoga, pilates, meditation, surfing, swimming, sup, running, gym and more. This led me to meet and be trained by Wim Hof (the ICEMAN) and apply the training designed by big wave surfer, Laird Hamilton and his XPT program.

I learned that it’s great to do loads of activity and to work hard but the body needs to recover from the stress I put into it especially when I hit the grumpy zone (sign of fatigue and over stress). The XPT and Wim Hof methods taught me ways to control the mind and heal the body. This is what I now apply in my life and what I teach others in our Recovery Workshops.


What have I learned doing the Workshops

What surprised me the most is the wide range of people who join us for the experience. Initially I thought that it would be for the hard core sporties and surfers, but that is not necessarily the case. Yes it’s a great way to reset and recover from the gym or heavy surf sessions but the methods apply to anyone. What I discovered is that people from all walks of life and all manner of physical conditions can give it a go and really benefit. Some with chronic health conditions, some 3 weeks out of major surgery, others just stressed from work and home life. It has been awesome to see people breathe and move better and learn how to master their stress in the cold and the heat.

The other thing I have learnt is that I can be myself. Initially I thought I had to be like Laird or Wim but I made a decision to be real and allow people to judge me for who I am which I thought might put people off but again I was pleasantly surprised. I found that people were able to trust me and themselves whilst experiencing things that take them out of their comfort zones.

The other thing I learned is that the body does not distinguish between emotional, physical or mental stress and that the biggest benefit from the sessions is allowing people to feel connected to this stress and their body and giving them tools to release it, and manage it more effectively.

There is much more I could say but the other thing I learned is that you don’t know unless you’ve done it.
